Is It Cruel to Crate a Dog at Night?

Your dog could be barking up a storm and howling like a wild animal that sounds like he is being strangled. Is it cruelty to crate a dog in the dark? If your dog is crying and whining, it might sound like a horror film.

It might sound bad but some dogs really are that loud and destructive. It is a fact that most dogs who sleep in crates are unhappy. They probably haven’t had enough sleep and need to get some good rest. You need to make sure that you are not making your dog sleep in a dirty crate. This is not only cruel it is also can be dangerous.

Some people might think that crating is a necessary evil and should never be allowed. The truth is that dogs need to go to the bathroom and need their space. Dogs also relieve themselves at night. So if you don’t want your pup going off in the corner, just don’t let him out of his crate. But don’t make him stay in there all night either.

If you think about it for a moment, you will realize that puppies whine because they need to go to the bathroom during the night. So you shouldn’t allow your puppy to stay in his crate all night. If you do, you are simply reinforcing his whining habit. Just say to him, “I need to go potty” and you will be amazed at how quickly he will learn to go to the bathroom in the evening.

If your dog whines because he is feeling especially fevered from a food or a medicine error, then you might want to leave him in his crate for a bit before letting him back into your bed. If you let him sleep in your bed, it could cause him to drink more. A dog that drinks too much during the day can be a health risk to you and your family. You could end up with such an issue that you have to have him checked out at the vet. It is definitely not something that you want to have happen to your family.

Puppies who are crate trained will stay in their crates on command most of the time. They know when they have to go out and get something. You can set up your crate as a spot where your dog will go to sleep. This is just another way to help your dog become more comfortable sleeping in his crate.

Be sure that you are allowing your dogs to go in and out of their crates at least once every two hours. The reason behind crating these dogs is to make them more potty trained. You can also introduce some toys to play with them in their crates, but make sure that they are only used for sleeping. Cribbing a puppy is not good for them because they get too relaxed in the crate and not exercising at all. They need to be kept active to keep them healthy.

You can begin crate training your puppy as soon as your puppy is a couple of weeks old. It is not cruel to crate train your puppy because it helps him to become a well behaved dog. A well behaved dog is one that gets along better with his humans and other dogs in the house. The more you try to crate train your puppy, the more he will like it and want to be crated. The longer you wait before introducing the puppy into his crate, the more familiar he will get with it and will sleep better at night.
