In the next part you are going to continue moving forward with the command of “lie down”. You will want to move forward as quickly as possible with the command of “lie down” so your dog has no reason to wonder what is going on. Eventually after getting your dog to this point you will be able to let him up on his own.

The last part of this technique to teach your dog to lay down is to give him a treat when he has finished. This will encourage him to get down on all fours for the treat. When he finishes, have him sit and praise him.

There is no point in having him fetch your things when he can just sit and play with his favorite toy instead.
