Many dog owners love their dogs just as much as anyone else, but there are those who really don’t know how to take care of their furry little pets like we do. We love our pets just the way they are, and that’s all we want. But, there are some times when we get so fed up with our dogs, that we may start to think about getting rid of them. For many dog owners, the thought of having to give up their dog just because they are no longer happy is just too much to handle.
However, if you love your dog just the way he is and never intend on making any changes, then crate dog at night is probably not for you. There are plenty of other, better ideas to consider. Some dogs need to be left alone in the evening, and crate dog at day time is not an appropriate solution for most dogs. But, if you firmly believe your dog needs to be left alone at night, here are some tips for you.
First of all, it’s important to remember that your dog will not be able to sleep through the entire night if you have him in there. But, try to make sure he is in bed before six o’clock. If you can manage, get him out before five o’clock in the evening. Hopefully, your dog will be able to get the same sleep he used to get every night before you leave him in that room.
If you’re worried about your dog going off track at night, you could try to let him out to go potty. Most dogs will enjoy this idea. You can take him outside to his designated spot in the yard or to your yard and let him out to the yard while you do chores around the house. While he is getting the needed exercise, you can also check your dog for any signs of distress. Some dogs will simply keep walking around until they feel free, and other dogs will become anxious when they are left in their crate or locked up for long periods of time.
If your dog seems too stressed out to be comfortable in his crate, then you might want to consider giving him a quick run in his pajamas before you leave for the night. Some dogs enjoy running, and others don’t. Some dogs won’t mind sleeping in their crates, but most dogs enjoy having their own bed to sleep in, so if they are in their crate for more than two hours, it may be best to let them out. If you don’t want to use the floor as a bed during the night, you could try putting an old towel or blanket by his door, and making sure he is comfortable.
Try to keep your dog in his crate for no more than two hours at a time. Even if your dog has gotten used to being alone at night, when you first start him in his crate he may be feeling uncomfortable and may feel like he is being shut out. So, don’t be afraid to let him out, only stay in there for a short period of time. If your dog starts to whine during this time, don’t be alarmed and try to figure out why – maybe he needs to go out for a walk.
Try to crate your dog when he is still a puppy, as he will be more comfortable with the idea. Also, you will have less to clean up afterward. When you crate your dog, he should never be without his leash. He should always walk with you. If he doesn’t, then be sure to take him home safely immediately.
Some dogs love to be in their crates at night, and some dogs hate it. It all depends on your dog. Just remember that a dog loves to be close to you, even when he is sleeping. And, if he is not used to being alone at night, he may not be ready to be crate trained. It is important to begin crate training your dog when he is a puppy so he can get used to it.
