In general, the biggest you can get is about 15 inches long, and that’s the largest that most people keep as their puppy crate size. Many people feel that puppies should have a large living area, or an outdoor kennel of some sort. Those are great ideas, but most people keep their crates pretty small. Here are a few pointers on how big of a crate to buy for your puppy.
You may think that a puppy crate size needs to be chosen before your puppy arrives. However, there is good news. You don’t need to get a crate that is several feet long when you bring him home. That will be too bulky and he will never be able to move around comfortably inside of it. As long as it is big enough for him to stand up in and turn around in, it is all that you need to know how big of a crate you should get.
When you go to choose a puppy crate size, there are several things to keep in mind. First, how much room do you have? Do you have a lot of room for a crate? If so, then you probably want a big one. If not, then you may need to keep your puppy in a smaller area.
How big of a crate do you need? You need one that will allow your puppy to stand up, turn around, and lie down comfortably. Some puppies’ crates are much larger than others. The smaller crates are great for puppies that sleep and nuzzle at you while they are awake, because they won’t cause you to worry as much if your puppy accidentally gets on the floor.
Does your puppy need to go in and out of the crate frequently? Most dogs like to be inside of them for their entire lives. But some puppies may have behaviors that discourage you from letting them out of their crates. These behaviors include barking, jumping, whining, and chewing. If this is the case, you will need to leave your puppy in his crate for longer periods of time. This might mean that you will have to purchase two crates.
What is the climate of your area? A puppy needs to be able to go outside when it needs to, but it can’t be forever. In the summer, for instance, they will need to go in the crate for some time. They will grow out of it in the spring and continue to grow in size until September. But even then, they will still try to go outside.
How big of a crate do I need for a puppy? Before you decide how big of a crate to get, you need to consider several factors. First, how big of a crate do you have available? Then consider how often you plan to leave your puppy in the crate. A large crate would accommodate a puppy that is up to thirty-five pounds.
Now that you have all of these things figured out, you can start to think about how big of a crate to get. A medium crate would be best for a puppy that is not teething. A large crate would be best for a puppy that is teething and that is usually quite large. Getting a crate that is too big will just give your puppy a reason not to want to stay in it. And if your puppy gets out, you will have to purchase a new large crate!
